From the future of an illusion to a futureless hallucination in the society of positivity

The article discusses how psychoanalysis, since Freud, has investigated the relationship between human beings and the environment they live in, analyzing how culture influences the constitution of subjectivity. It highlights the importance of developing symbolic capacity and elaborating on impotence, as well as recognizing incompleteness and mortality for free thought, creativity, and life in society. In contemporary times, where the culture of narcissism prevails, there is a denial of castration and death, favoring totalitarian illusions and the hallucination of a world that denies mortality. Based on the works of Byung-Chul Han (2015, 2017a, 2017b), the text analyzes the transition from the immunological paradigm to the neuronal paradigm, characterized by an excess of positivity, the erasure of alterity, and the cult of performance. To illustrate these ideas, we discuss the film The square (2017), which criticizes today's society and ironically exposes the emotional and relational collapse of the contemporary subject.
