Eating disorders as a destination for traumatization: a contemporary perspective

In contemporary psychoanalysis, we understand the phenomenon of trauma as a process that, in the face of a triggering current event, reveals fractures in the individual's psychic development stemming from vicarious traumatizations that occur throughout the individual's development. Faced with adverse conditions of interpersonal interactions and infantile partial object relations, the infantile ego reacts with processes of splitting and fragmentation of the experience of the self. Thus, the contemporary psychoanalytic process integrates the understanding of the complexity of the human phenomenon in this interplay of interpersonal relationships and intrapsychic object relations, which occur in the encounter between the analyst and analysand that unfolds in the psychoanalytic field.
