O conceito de Bion de turbulência emocional constitui-se da combinação de dois dos principais temas ontológicos, fenomenológicos e epistemológicos que ele trouxe à nossa atenção, o “O” em desenvolvimento e as protoemoções como aquele aspecto de nós mesmos que cruza com o “O” a fim de mediá-lo. A turbulência emocional é o que Freud realmente tinha em mente quando falou do id como um “caldeirão fervilhante”. As formulações de Bion sobre a turbulência emocional, quando consideradas no contexto de sua interface com o “O”, constituem a reformulação mais avançada e profunda do inconsciente até hoje.
