Abstract
Case study as a methodology for psychoanalytic research
Epistemological differences regarding case study as an appropriate validationmethod of psychoanalytic theory have been observed, from a position thatunderstands psychoanalytic research as the study of meanings, and the appropriatemethod to research psychoanalytic theories; and an approach that favors theadoption of a scientific character, based on the integration of researchmethodologies supported on logics of probabilistic causal relations. Thepsychoanalytic investigation, according to causal models, does not seem to considerthe specificity of its study field, the unconscious, requiring a specific approach toresearch. In this work the authors propose the use of case study as a methodologyfor psychoanalytic scientific research, by means of clinical supervision and theanalyses of countertransference as methodologies that generate scientific evidencefor the psychoanalytic theory.
