A lógica do campo

Howard B. Levine

Abstract

The logic of the field

The field is a concept that, with a few exceptions, is newly arrived in Americanpsychoanalysis, mostly by way of Antonino Ferro’s (2002, 2005, 2006) applicationof the work of Bion, Winnicott and the Barangers. Its nature is such that its contentsand form cannot be fully specifiable. They are inherently emergent. In this essay,I will attempt to articulate my sense of its meaning and potential value in theclinical encounter, exploring the epistemology and truth status of the field conceptand examining its potential GPS function in relation to the analytic process.

Keywords: field, Bion, Ferro, truth, intersubjectivity, psychic reality, epistemology.
